SDF Altar.jpg"The Altar of Homelessness," is my title for this scene on the quai of the River Seine. Unemployment is a major problem facing developed countries undergoing the impact of economic globalization. France is no exception and in spite of its good security programs, many end up homeless and seek their shelter on the streets. In France "Homeless" is called "SDF" (Sans Domicile Fixe) that is "Without any Fixed Address."

Ten Toes.jpgThis SDF (Homeless) man has all ten toes and his dog as he exercises his "freedom" as one twit put it that "We all have the freedom to sleep under the bridges," as here under the Petit Pont near the Christian Cathedral of Notre Dame.

Invisible SDF.jpg"Invisible in Plain Sight," this homeless man (SDF) lies on the hard, cold stone floor of an empty shop, overlooked by busy, passing shoppers wandering the huge commercial center of the Les Halles Forum.

SDF & Luxe.jpgThis homeless woman lies on the doorstep of a (closed) luxcury story selling very expensive fine art objects and antiques. Worlds apart sometimes lie in the closest distant proximity.

Cascette.jpg"Everybody knows Cascette," he told me, holding an article headlined "Things Are Happening Under the Bridge Louis Philippe" in the newspaper published & distributed by the homeless. Cascette had indeed found a hole in the wall of the Quai de Bourbon for an inner space he was running as a homeless shelter in 1994. In the evenings he staged political cabaret out on the eastern tip of the quai with its view across the Seine to both the City Hall and Notre Dame. The police later closed it all down.
