"Everybody knows Cascette," he told me, holding an article headlined "Things Are Happening Under the Bridge Louis Philippe" in the newspaper published & distributed by the homeless. Cascette had indeed found a hole in the wall of the Quai de Bourbon for an inner space he was running as a homeless shelter in 1994. In the evenings he staged political cabaret out on the eastern tip of the quai with its view across the Seine to both the City Hall and Notre Dame. The police later closed it all down.
